PORT ORCHARD BUTOKUKAN:
DOJO ETIQUETTE

1.) Each student (Karateka) will bow upon entering or leaving the Dojo.
2.) Bowing will be addressed to the Butokukan Crest or the Sensei.
a.) Once formal class has started, last students will wait
at the edge of the workout area until the Sensei bows
                         them in.
b.) Once formal class has started, it is customary for the
late student to perform pushups for the Sensei before
                         being bowed in.
c.) During a formal class period, the student must ask the
Sensei's permission to leave the workout area (for any
                         reason)
d.) Each student will bow to the Crest before entering or
                         leaving the actual workout area.
3.) The instructor and all Black Belts will be addressed as Sensei
whenever inside the Dojo (whether it is formal workout or not).
4.) During a formal class period, all students will be quiet, giving the
             Sensei complete freedom to teach.
a.) During a formal class period, all questions should be
directed to the Sensei (unless the Sensei has made other
                         arrangements)
b.) If a student has a question, she or he should raise a
hand and wait to be recognised by the Sensei.
5.) Profanity will not be tolerated in the Dojo.
6.) Respect others' personal property. (Stealing/vandalism is grounds
             for expulsion.)
7.) It is everyone's responsibility to keep the Dojo clean and the
workout area free of debris that could cause an injury.
8.) The belt (Obi) is an extension of its wearer's inner spirit (Ki)
and represents that person's karate ability. The belt shold never
touch the floor except when worn. If the belt does touch the floor,
the Ki that has been snapped into the belt will run out. Permitting
the Obi to touch the floor is a sign of disrespect.
9.) Violations of any of the above rules will be punishable by whatever
the Sensei deems necissary. Punishment is usually a number of
pushups which the Sensei deems equivalent to the severity of the
             violation).
a.) Pushups may also be assigned if the student's
knowledge or form is not considered satisfactory to
the student's rank (in other words, the Sensei thinks
the student is sluffing or not paying attention).
10.) Any problems or concerns with the Dojo or Students (in or out of
the Dojo) should be directed to the Head Sensei or the Sensei's
            designated representative.
11.) The Dojo Head Instructor has the power to expel any student under
any circumstances for activities occuring in or out of the Dojo
that he deems unfitting of a student of Butokukan Karate.
