PORT ORCHARD BUTOKUKAN:
BUTOKUKAN AFFIRMATIONS
Butokukan Vows changed to Butokukan Affirmations.* We have had many students and parents, who were uncomfortable with the Butokukan vows. The word "vow" was taken to be as a solemn oath before God. Butokukan has no intention to be a religious organization or to interfere with a student's personal beliefs. The Butokukan Board of Directors have changed the Vows to Affirmations. We feel that the Affirmations said once each class session will still have the same affect as the Vows, without the religious conflict. The Affirmations are to create a strong allegiance of each member to Butokukan, respect in the style of Butokukan, and dedication to the practice, and honor among members. All Butokukan members of Ni-Kumi and higher will be required to know the Affirmations by heart and live by them. ~Shihon Hill The Affirmations: 1.) I am a faithful member of Butokukan. 2.) I use Butokukan only in defense of myself, my loved ones, and in defense of my country. 3.) I always respect my seniors as I do my Senseis. 4.) I never make false statements to members of Butokukan. 5.) I never do anything that would degrade Butokukan as a Martial Art. 6.) These Rules and Laws I will ever hold true. I am ____________( your name )____________ Affirmation: Confirmation of anything established. Assertion of action. A solemn declaration.
